Actress Robin Wright is reflecting on her past and embracing a new chapter filled with peace, love, and lessons learned. Best known for her role in \"House of Cards,\" Wright recently shared some deeply personal thoughts in an interview with The Times of London<\/em>\u2014including what she calls her \u201chuge regret\u201d as a mother.<\/p>\n

Wright shares two children, daughter Dylan, 34, and son Hopper, 32, with her ex-husband Sean Penn. Looking back, she admits that raising them wasn\u2019t always easy.<\/p>

\"I have a huge regret as a mother and have experienced the fallout of this regret for many years with my kids \u2014 I wasn\u2019t hard enough on them,\" Wright said. She explained that Penn was often away, and when he returned, he played the \u201cpoliceman\u201d role, while she softened the blow. \u201cWe were both extremes. They didn\u2019t get that gray area in the middle, which is stern, and that is what they needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her honesty reminds us that parenting doesn\u2019t come with a rulebook. Even with the best intentions, couples can struggle to strike the right balance.<\/p>\n

Wright and Penn\u2019s relationship was famously rocky. They married in 1996, divorced in 2010, and spent years breaking up and reconciling before finally calling it quits. In 2014, Wright told The Telegraph, \u201cDivorce in and of itself, and with children, is devastating. Worse than that. One of the reasons why we got back together and broke up so much was trying to keep the family together. If you've got kids, it's a family, and you try again, and you try again. We did that for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her words capture the heartache many parents feel\u2014trying to preserve family unity for the sake of their children, even when the relationship itself is crumbling.<\/p>

After three marriages and decades in the Hollywood spotlight, Wright decided she needed something different. She left California behind for the English countryside, a place she says brings her peace.<\/p>\n

\"I love being in this country. There\u2019s a freedom of self here. People are so kind,\" she shared. \u201cThey\u2019re living. They\u2019re not in the car in traffic, panicked on a phone call, eating a sandwich. That\u2019s most of America. Everything\u2019s rush, competition and speed. Everyone\u2019s building a huge house and I\u2019m just done with all that \u2014 I love the quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n

In England, Wright met Henry Smith, 52, in a countryside pub\u2014and their connection was immediate. Shortly after meeting, both came down with COVID-19, an experience that bonded them quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cGetting to know each other in deep long COVID was like... the fast track,\u201d Wright recalled. \u201cWe were lying in bed deathly ill, crying, laughing, hugging, loving, snogging\u2026 Just like, \u2018I want to know you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, she\u2019s looking forward to moving to the English seaside with Smith. \u201cI love being alone and I\u2019ve done that many times. But I\u2019m, like, I want to grow old with somebody, and travel and see the world,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

For Wright, this season of life feels like closure on years of searching. \u201cIt\u2019s liberating to be done,\u201d she admitted. \u201cBe done with searching, looking and getting 60 percent of what you wanted. I\u2019m seen and loved for who I am. It\u2019s so relaxing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robin Wright\u2019s story is one of reflection, regret, and renewal. Like so many parents, she wishes she had done some things differently, but she\u2019s also proof that it\u2019s never too late to embrace love, peace, and a fresh start.<\/p>\n
